While slightly overshadowed in their heyday by the success of Blink-182, Alkaline Trio was one of the seminal pop punk bands of the late 90s and early 2000s. Their unique brand of pounding pop punk has delighted millions of fans on hit records and sold-out tour dates. Alkaline Trio has become well known for upbeat, tongue-in-cheek songs and youthful, energetic concert days. After 15 years as rock stars, Alkaline Trio is still going strong with a new album, Damnesia, due out on July 12, and 15th anniversary tour dates in 2011. Even if you haven't seen Alkaline Trio in the headlines recently, their hit records and amazing tour dates have proven that Alkaline Trio is here to stay.
Alkaline Trio currently consists of guitarist and lead singer Matt Skiba, bassist Dan Andriano, and drummer Derek Grant. However, before this current line-up, Alkaline Trio began in the suburbs of Chicago circa 1996. After releasing two EP's -- Sundials (1997) and For Your Lungs Only (1998) -- Asian Man Records released Alkaline Trio's debut LP, Goddamnit in 2000. The LP was praised for its somewhat aggressive and humorous approach to what would otherwise be considered ballads. While Alkaline Trio's 2001 album, From Here To Infirmary, received mixed reviews from critics, punk fans gobbled it up and the record even cracked the Billboard 200. The popularity of the album led to Alkaline Trio to their first tour dates on the Warped Tour in 2002, beginning a relationship with the traveling festival that continues today.
Alkaline continued releasing a string of well received albums, including Good Morning, Crimson, and Agony & Irony. They also experienced more success on the road, playing tour dates throughout the US and Europe, leading up to Alkaline Trio's latest album, This Addiction, in 2010. The album was better received by fans than it was by critics, with some stating that it represented an evolved version of the band's earlier style. Fans have only had to wait roughly a year for new music, as Damnesia is set to release on July 12, 2011. As if that weren't enough, Alkaline Trio is embarking on summer tour dates in 2011 in honor of their 15th anniversary. US concert dates begin on July 10 in Omaha, just days before the new record is released, and will canvass both coasts with a few stops in the center of the country. 2011 tour dates for Alkaline Trio will end on August 19 in Orlando, so be sure to check Eventful for all the ticket and concert date information.
