It's November 1999, and five days are about to rock the world as over 50,000 protesters take to the streets of Seattle with a common goal -- to shut down the World Trade Organization talks. Dubbed, "the Millenium Round", the WTO is working to seal a deal with 135 countries that will forever make their democratic laws subject to the demands of multinational corporations, as dictated by the new bylaws of the WTO.
But the protesters decide they're not going to let it happen. Based on true events, Battle in Seattle follows the activists as they carefully orchestrate their overthrow of one of the most powerful organizations in the world. What begins as a peaceful demonstration quickly escalates into a full-scale battle that will make history and determine the direction of the 21st century. Ultimately, Battle in Seattle shows that even against incredible odds, ordinary people can change the world.
With a stellar ensemble cast, writer/director Stuart Townsend intertwines the activists' point of view with those of the police, delegates and doctors who find themselves on the streets of Seattle in those final, rainy days of the millennium. The film seamlessly merges footage of the real event with the fictional storyline, placing you right in the middle of the action. A must-see film!
