The Massachusetts native was inspired at a young age by the Judds, Reba McEntire, and the legendary Patsy Cline. By 16, she knew that she was bound for country stardom and she began performing at local clubs while honing her vocal abilities. She moved to Nashville to get her start at nineteen and landed random jobs while performing at local Nashville talent competitions. Messina was noticed by local producer, Byron Gallimore, who was working with Tim McGraw at the time. Gallimore helped Messina put together a demo which landed her a recording contract with Curb Records.
She recorded her self-titled debut album in 1996 and was met with immediate praise from critics, radio, and fans alike. Her debut single, "Heads Carolina, Tails California", reached #2 on the Billboard Country Singles chart and the album was certified Gold by the RIAA. The album, written during a period of near financial ruin and bankruptcy, was released in 1998 and broke several records for the starlet. The first three singles: "Bye, Bye"; "I'm Alright"; and "Stand Beside", all reached #1 on the singles charts and stayed there for more than one week. The feat gave Messina the record for having charted three consecutive singles that charted at #1 for more than a week. Messina won the Country Music Association's "Horizon Award" and the Billboard Music Award for "Most Played Female at Country Radio. She was a country superstar seemingly overnight and Jo Dee Messina tour dates were the hottest show on the country music circuit.
Her sophomore album was certified multi-Platinum and the pressure was on to release an equally formidable effort. Her third album, Burn, was released in 2000 and scored Messina her first #1 album on the charts and another Platinum plaque. Jo Dee Messina tour dates were scheduled alongside Vince Gill and George Strait and she even shared the stage with The Judds on the Reunion Tour. Fans had to wait five long years for Messina to release her fourth album, Delicious Surprise, in 2005. The album was another chart topper for her, and featured her hit single "My Give A Damn's Busted". Jo Dee Messina tour dates were scheduled in support of the disc.
Messina began recording her fifth album, Unmistakable, in 2007. The album was never released, however, she has continued to release singles to radio including her most recent hit "That's God". In 2009, Jo Dee Messina tour dates were booked on the Music Room Series Tour, and she released three EPs in 2010.
