      Bio

Liz Phair emerged in the early 90s as a provocative rock goddess who hit alt-radio with her blunt-force lyrics and lo-fi guitar riffs. Her no excuses attitude proved that girls could rock too and she enjoyed early critical success with her debut album, Exile in Guyville. Even though Phair hasn't released a studio album since 2010's Funstyle, the eclectic, unapologetic rocker continues to tour; bringing her definitively 90s sound to audiences around the country.

Liz Phair debuted her brutally honest alternative sound in 1993 and was immediately heralded for re-starting a rock revolution for female performers. She released her sophomore album, Whip-Smart, in 1994 and scored a hit with "Supernova". The album was certified Gold and Liz Phair concert performances were scheduled nationally and she even appeared on The Tonight Show and Good Morning America. In 1998, Liz Phair joined Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow for the inaugural Lilith Fair tour.

Liz Phair continued to record throughout the decade and re-emerged in 2003 with "Why Can't I" from her eponymous fourth album.

Phair released her fifth and final major label release Somebody's Miracle in 2005 before going independent in 2008. Phair independently released Funstyle in 2010, which has become her last studio album to date. The album greatly departed from the sound Phair had become known for, even rapping on one track. The album not only dealt a blow to Phair's commercial career, but also her confidence.

Since then, Phair has concentrated her efforts on composing music for movies and television, winning the 2009 ASCAP Award for Top Television Composer for her work on the re-worked 90210 franchise. In 2014, a greatest hits album titled Icon was released, bringing Phair back into the public eye. The 90s and its iconic music may, for the most part, be history; but with signature artists like Liz Phair continuing to tour, the celebrated music of that decade will never disappear.
