Many people who have heard the acoustic driven fusion of folk, metal, and Latin music on tour dates might find it hard to believe that the Rodrigo y Gabriela first gained fame playing in pubs throughout Ireland and the UK. Regardless of where the duo came into fame, their unique blend of Latin music with metal has gained them fans all around the world. Their live albums have captured the acoustic energy that sets the band apart, and US fans still have 2011's Live in France secured in their cd players, while European fans wait in earnest. However, audiences can experience it in person during Gabriela y Rodrigo's remaining 2011 tour dates in the US, UK, and Europe.
Mexico City natives Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero met as teenagers while performing in a metal band. After experiencing limited success and yearning for a more diverse music scene, the duo moved to Dublin and began busking before moving on to pubs and parties. Luckily, in 2005, Rodrigo y Gabriela were given tour dates at big-name summer music festivals in the UK before releasing their breakout, self-titled album in 2006. The record became critically acclaimed and reached the top of the Irish charts, surprising audiences with an acoustic cover of Metallica's "Orion."
This led to performances in the US and around the world, paving the way for 11:11 in 2009. This time, critics and audiences around the world took notice and the album's overwhelming success launched Rodrigo y Gabriela into stardom. Even with the success of their albums, Rodrigo y Gabriela's talent shines no brighter than on tour dates, including those in 2011. The duo's handful of remaining concert dates include appearances at Rock Oz Arenes Festival in Switzerland, the Big Chill Festival in the UK, and the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Festival in the US.
