Irish indie rock band The Script has been on the music scene for ten years, regardless of whether or not you've been to a tour date or even heard one of their songs. Even though they have but two albums -- the first self-titled album was released in 2008 -- the trio has been garnering massive amounts of attention from fans, critics, and DJs in the UK and Ireland for the past four years. The Script's concert dates have enticed thousands of fans and have been hugely successful throughout Europe. Now The Script is catching the eye of Americans with their 2010 release of Science & Faith and their upcoming concert dates on VH1's Best Cruise Ever tour with headliners Train, Lifehouse, and Colbie Caillat. After the cruise, they'll have a number of UK tour dates in 2011; a great opportunity for both fans and those with a piquing interest.
The formation of The Script began in a club in Dublin, when lead singer Danny O'Donoghue met guitarist Mark Sheehan and the two hit it off based on shared tastes in music. The two were later members of Irish boy band MyTown together, but the quartet got lost in the boy band explosion of the mid 90's. The duo moved to the US and began creating demos for other artists; but upon returning to Ireland they met drummer Glen Power, who was working on a solo album. The plans of all three artists changed when Sheehan and O'Donoghue took Power to Los Angeles to collaborate, and the three hit it off instantly.
Before The Script could get their careers off the ground, the bandmates suffered a number of individual losses. First, Sheehan's mother became terminally ill and passed away ten months later; then O'Donoghue's father died of heart attack just four months later. It was an emotionally distraught time for the band that ended up inspiring beautifully lyrical songs, including the hit song "We Cry". The song appeared on The Script's self-titled release in 2008 and soon became a hit single favored by critics, singles charts, and played on both Irish and British radio stations. The success of the album had The Script opening concert dates for incredible UK stars like Paul McCartney and U2, catapulting the band's fame.
The Script's newest album, Science & Faith, has created their new hit single "For the First Time". The song was a huge success, debuting on Irish charts at #1 and peaking on UK charts at #4. The album is also the cause for The Script's 2011 tour dates on the Science & Faith tour, beginning March 24 in the UK. While initially there was only one scheduled US tour date for 2011, more concert dates have been added. The US tour dates for 2011 will end on June 10 at the Today Show Summer Concert Series in NYC. Even with additional concert dates, fans shouldn't miss an opportunity to catch one of the final 2011 tour dates for The Script.
