      Bio

Alvvays is the brainchild of Nova Scotia native Molly Rankin; daughter of John Morris Rankin of the Celtic folk group, the Rankin Family. Rankin is joined in the band by her childhood songwriting partner and keyboardist, Kerri MacLellan, and guitarist Alec O'Hanley, whom Rankin met at a concert as a teen. The trio was later joined by bassist Brian Murphy and drummer Sheridan Riley.

The members of Alvvays moved to Toronto and began touring, eventually recording a self-titled, debut album that was put on cassette and passed around at shows. While one of the album's singles, "Adult Diversion, became a viral hit, their record contract came from the strength of their performance at SXSW in 2014. Their first album was eventually re-released to critical acclaim.

Alvvays' second album, Antisocialites, was released in 2017 and featured new music that had been performed on the band's numerous tour and festival dates following the release of their debut album. Antisocialites debuted at No. 28 on the UK Official Albums Chart, and received critical acclaim from Pitchfork and musicOMH.
