..Official Biography from her official website :..

..Emma Shapplin started her music career in classical music, studying Opera with different teachers, and then moved to rock. She discovered that although rock gave her a certain artistic freedom, and brought her to explore a lower range of her voice, it was still not enough for her appetite for self-expression, she decided to create her own style with the help of great musicians. She study harmony and piano in Paris, and then met with the vocal-coach she still working with - named Yaël Benzaquen - a very precious and clever "maître de chant" whom Emma always consult, especially when she explore some new vocal possibilities and directions. ..

.. Own style became a combination of diverse opera influences, lyrical poetry and modern trance and rock/pop influences. ..

.. Emma was raised speaking French but decided she wanted her first two albums written mainly in medieval Italian, also because Emma believes, "It is a language that sings naturally, and leaves a large open space to dreams". Her first album "Carmine Meo" was written and composed by Jean-Patrick Capdevielle under her careful and obstinate influence. A while later, Emma was still relatively unknown in the United States until composer Graeme Revell invited her to sing 3 graceful tracks - on Dante's poetry - from his score, sharing the set list with Peter Gabriel and Sting, for the Hollywood movie "Red Planet". For her second album "Etterna", Emma, who is a great lover of poetry and literature, wrote all lyrics directly in medieval Italian, playing with time and styles using many "carefully chosen archaic words and expressions" as evocation of ancient great poets and dramas, even introduce some of Sapho's fragment of poetry...

.. Regarding the musical aspect, Emma wanted to share compositions with another artist and invite Graeme Revell (whom she enjoyed working with on "Red planet") who finally composed half of Etterna's music ... and as Emma like to explain "he brought his maturity and the smoothness of his orchestration". ..

.. When the London Philharmonic Orchestra played along Emma's composition's scores and Graeme's in Abbey Road Studio, with the London Philharmonic Choir singing, Emma was absolutely in heaven - this very special moment was truly unforgettable and magical.
Like her first album, Emma wanted "Etterna" to evoke a little world itself. ..

.. If "Carmine Meo" was a world of fire and earth, "Etterna" was imagined as a world surrounded by "water and air", a world emerged from the fog, and vanishing through tormented water, with fairy characters searching their ways through dark or unlighted mists, surveying the ocean floor, wondering, and waiting for an escape. ..

.. "Carmine Meo" sold over 2 million copies all around the world and became multi-platinum many times, which gave her start and introduced her to more than 25 countries. Her second album "Etterna" lead her to remarkable and bewitching stage performances, which she produced and staged herself...

.. A live DVD, recorded in Cesarea 1999, from the first concert she gave in Israel, came out as she was starting the "Etterna Tour" in 2003, this Live DVD was often confused with the 3 dates of the "Etterna Show" she gave in 2004 also in Cesarea. Unfortunately, even if the "Etterna show" was played for many years all around the world and was acclaimed each time and mostly with standing ovations, it was never video-recorded entirely. However some of it is shown on Emma's Official website - a long version of an EPK produced by Nimue Music. For Emma these precisions are very important, as "Etterna Show" is really revealing her unique world and work on stage - very visual, introducing contemporary dancers evolving along, with a classical choir (and often with a classical Philharmonic Orchestra of Chamber), Emma's rock band, a beautiful light-show and unique costumes ... ..

.. Emma has performed many times, in some of the most amazing places around the world, including the Acropolis in Athens, the arena "Olympia" in Greece too, the Kremlin Grand Palace in Moscow, the Esplanade Opera House in Singapore, the Cesarea Arena in Israel, the theatre Carré in Holland, in a newly excavated open air Roman Mausoleum near Belgrade for 10 000 people, and an open air concert on the site of an immense temple in Bali, and by the Tunisian shore, also in Monaco for the Prince Albert for the ice skating, and at Hammamet, to name but a few. ..

.. Emma Shapplin has just finished writing and composing her new album “MACADAM FLOWER”, released late 2009, exquisite journey through electro-pop music, combining a different approach of sensuality, poetry and drama. ..

.. Soon she will embark on her new show “THE MACADAM FLOWER TOUR”, a breathtaking journey through her diverse vocal and musical approaches (embracing Opera, Electro-Pop-Rock and Neo-classical)...a new musical and visual experience born from Emma’s dreams .....
