The guys that make up the Hives met as teenagers under the tutelage of the mysterious/mythical sixth man Randy Fitzsimmons. Allegedly, he serves as the band's primary songwriter and lyricist, but has never appeared publicly with the band. Whether myth or man, the band was picked up by Burning Heart records, a Swedish punk imprint. They released their debut EP Oh Lord! When? How? in 1995 and their debut LP, Barley Legal, in 1997. The Hives embarked on a Sweden-wide tour the following year and were eventually picked up by Warner Music Group.

The Hives hit the mainstream with their second album, Veni Vidi Vicious, which was released in 2000. The album featured the biggest single of their career, "Hate To Say I Told You So", and garnered the punk band worldwide acclaim. By 2002, The Hives were picked up by Universal Music for a reported $50 million contract and continued to tour in support of their breakout album. They returned to Sweden to record Tyrannosaurus Hives which was released in 2004. The album featured the hit "Two-Timing Touch and Broken Bones, but did not match the success of its predecessor. The Hives tour dates were scheduled internationally to promote the disc.

The Hives regrouped in 2007 to renovate their image and update their sound. They came back harder and grungier with their fourth album, The Black and White Album, which featured the riotous single "Tick Tick Boom". The fast and hard single was featured in a Nike Commercial, NFL ads, and in the movies Jumper and MacGruber. The Hives were back with the rowdy sound that made them famous at the beginning of the decade and embarked on a world tour in 2008. According to their blog, the Hives are currently back in the studio and are working on their fifth studio release which is hopefully due out by the end of 2011. They are one of the best live acts of our generation and their lives shows are a rowdy and disorderly rock fest . Don't miss out on one of the best live shows of your life.
