Brooklyn based band, The National, is currently one of the most promising up-and-coming indie rock bands in the US. While achieving initial mainstream success with their 2005 album, Alligator, it is recent festival tour dates and critical praise for their latest album, High Violet, that has captured the attention of critics and audiences. The National is bound to receive even more attention after their festival appearances this summer, as well as 2011 tour dates in the US and Asia later this fall.
Led by frontman Matt Beringer, The National is largely a family affair and features brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner, as well as Bryan and Scott Devendorf. Their 2005 album, Alligator, was praised by critics and was considered by many to be one of the top albums of the year; the album also allowed for The National's first ever sold-out tour dates. The Boxer also received similar acclaim, with the singles "Slow Show" and "Fake Empire" being used in many TV programs.
However, it is The National's 2010 album, High Violet, that has had respected music critics applauding. It has also sparked a number of 2011 tour dates, with the band currently making their way through European music festivals in July and August. On September 6, The National will be embarking on a few US tour dates with Yo La Tengo and Wye Oak. On November 6, the band will perform two shows -- one in Singapore, the other in Tokyo -- before ending their 2011 tour dates on November 9.
